The Grasslands Region Permanent Upgrade Locations

The Grasslands are the first location you visit in your journey to save the Creatures of Ava. It’s a large area, but most of it is open when you arrive, after completing the tutorial. Although some parts are inaccessible until you are able to clear the gold Withering infection.

Health Kit #1

You can find the first Health Kit upgrade at the Cascade of Joy. There is a large waterfall here. Simply swim into the Waterfall.

Once you are behind the Waterfall, you will find a Health Kit upgrade on a box.

Backpack Pocket #1

You can find this Permanent Upgrade at the Scientific Refuge. You must visit this part of the map during the story, where you are asked to collect the special branches.

Once inside the Scientific Refuge, search the room at the back and you will find the Backpack Pocket sitting on a table.

Backpack Pocket #2

In order to obtain this Permanent Upgrade, you must follow the main story until you unlock the ability to remove Gold Withering infection. You can then head to The Weeping Rock, at the temple, to obtain it.

You can then use your new ability to remove two gold infected plants and clear a hole through this wall to find the Backpack Pocket #2.

Stamina Kit #1

Before you’re able to reach this Stamina Kit, you need to upgrade the Nafitar. Head to this location and use the upgraded Nafitar to remove the yellow infected plant.

This will reveal a cave behind the plant. You can find the Stamina Kit there.

Stamina Kit #2

You can find this Stamina Kit to the West of Scientific Refuge. At this location on the map.

There is a damaged wooden shack at the location. Climb the ladder to the top floor and you’ll find the Stamina Kit resting atop a wooden box.

Health Kit #2

In order to obtain this Health Kit, you need access to the Antaris Hermitage location. To reach this location, follow the main story until you have the quest “Think Of The Kids”. This quest will bring you to this location.

There is a wall here that is initially covered over by an infected plant. Clear the infected plant and then, inside the room, you will see a slab of rock you can lift. Use the Ushun ability to lift the slab and obtain the Health Kit.

Stamina Kit #3

You can find this Stamina Kit at the bottom of the mineshaft near the Quarry. You will not be able to obtain this upgrade until you have reached the Jungle region and learned how to get past the moving vines.

At the bottom of the mine, use the Dhom ability to gain access to the last remaining shaft and grab the upgrade.

Health Kit #4

You can find this upgrade in the Forbidden Forest. This is towards the latter stages of the game as you need to unlock all of the Nafitar upgrades to gain access to the area.

After using all of the Nafitar abilities to reach the location, you will find the upgrade on a crate.

Backpack Pocket #3

You can find the final upgrade for this region to the West, North West of Aleph Prime’s Grasslands base. There are a series of walls here, use the nearby creatures to break through.

You will find the upgrade on a bunch of crates, under a net, near the final wall.

The Jungle Region Permanent Upgrade Locations

The Jungle region is the second region you will explore in The Creatures of Ava. As with the previous region, you will first need to locate the settlement and learn the song, before you’re able to use your flute and interact with the creatures here.

Backpack Pocket #1

You can find the first Permanent Upgrade in the Jungle at the Aleph Prime’s Jungle Base, marked on the map above.

Once you reach the base, you can check one of the side rooms to find the Backpack Pocket upgrade resting on a chair.

Health Kit #1

There is a small Waterfall in the Jungle region called the Giggling Waterfall. It’s involved in a side quest where a native asks you to take a photograph of the falls. Simply head to Giggling Waterfall.

There is a cave nearby that is initially covered by vines. You’ll need to use the nearby creatures ability to remove the vines so you can access the cave.

Health Kit #2

This Health Kit can be found near the Research Station in the Jungle. This location is locked behind story progress. You first need to gain the ability to get past the moving vines, and then the main story quest “A Master’s Trust” will bring you to this location.

There is another simple puzzle here involving nearby creatures. Use the creatures abilities to gain access to this small cove and then grab the Health Kit.

Stamina Kit #2

This Stamina Kit can be located near the Research Station. Once you have access to this area of the story, simply head to the small body of water on the map and down to the bottom.

Once you’re at the bottom, use the nearby Batar (frog-like creature) to clear the vines so you can reach the kit.

Stamina Kit #3

You can find this Stamina Kit in the North East corner of the Jungle, in the Marsh of Shine. There are a number of new Creature abilities in the area but reaching this location is not difficult.

Using one of the nearby Yekembo creatures. You must use their ability to knock down a pillar that allows you to climb to this location. You can then grab the kit.

Backpack Pocket #2

This upgrade can be found in the Marsh of Shine at the location shown above.

You can find it sitting atop a collection of boxes after using the nearby Batar and Yekembo to gain access to this small ruins area.

The Swamp Region Permanent Upgrade Locations

Stamina Kit #1

The first Permanent Upgrade in the Swamp can be found near the start of the area, at the Swamp Teleport Secondary Station.

Work your way through to the second room in the station and you’ll find the upgrade sitting on a table.

Health Kit #1

This first Permanent Upgrade can be found just West of the Swamp Gate, to the South of Swamp Teleport Secondary Station.

There is a nearby Creature Gate that you will need to use, and then break down the bamboo bridge, before using the lily pads to reach the bridge. You may need to use the Shums, flying elephant-like creatures, to open the lily pads using their ability.

Health Kit #2

You can find this Health Kit upgrade in the very Northern edge of the Swamp region. You will need to follow the story and unlock the Hanar ability to reach this location.

You will then find the upgrade on a crate against the wall.

Backpack Pocket #1

There is a building at the Aleph Prime’s Study Center that has a door that is locked from the inside.

Climb the stairs to the next floor of the building and enter via the open door. Then drop down into the room below to grab the upgrade. You will need the Hanar ability to survive the room.

Stamina Kit #2

You can find this upgrade in the Blue Food Woods.

There are a couple of jelly walls in the area, use the Creature ability to break through and find the upgrade.

The Desert Region Permanent Upgrade Locations

Stamina Kit #1

You can find this Stamina Kit near the beginning of the Desert area, just South of the Great Ruins, at the location shown above.

You will need to enter from below, through the poisonous cloud, and then climb to this roof to get the upgrade.

Stamina Kit #2

You can find the final Stamina upgrade in the South West corner of the ruins, just South of the Great Ruins. You will need to navigate a few Creature puzzles to reach the location.

The upgrade can be found resting atop a rock.

The Grasslands Song

The Grasslands Song is the first song you learn in Creatures of Ava and it very much acts as a tutorial, introducing players to the Flute mechanics and taming of animals. Follow the main story and you will soon be told to meet with the Shepherds.

Once you meet this colorful folk, you will be taught how to use the flute and how to play your first song, The Grasslands Song.

The Jungle Song

As you follow the main story through the Grasslands, you will eventually gain access to the Jungle. Once you arrive in the Jungle, your main quest will be to discover the Naam in the Jungle settlement.

Head to this location to continue through with the main story. The Chief will then tell you to speak with Boh’ti, and you can learn the Jungle song so you’re able to tame creatures in the Jungle region.

The Swamp Song

The Swamp Song is unique among the first three songs as, unlike the previous two songs, it is not related to completing a specific quest. Instead, you simply follow the main story until you reach the Swamp. As soon as you enter, you are able to learn the song.

The Desert Song

The Tune of the Dunes is the main quest that takes you to the final area of the game, the Dunes. This is a much smaller area than previous zones, and you’ll find the song right near the beginning.

Before you are able to tame creatures, you must first obtain the Flute. This is a core mechanic of the game and introduced very early on, during the initial tutorial missions. Once you have the Flute, it is assigned to the Left D-Pad button on your controller.

It’s important to note that you are only able to obtain creatures you are observing in a Healthy state. This means they cannot be infected by the Withering, and they cannot be fleeing from you.

The easiest way to keep creatures passive, is to approach quietly. You can use crouch or hide in long grass to get closer to creatures, but the range of the Flute is quite forgiving, so you don’t need to get too close.

Once you are within range, simply activate the Flute by pressing Left on the directional pad. This will then bring up the Flute interface, where you will see a number of musical notes on your screen.

Fear not, you don’t need any musical talent to Tame creatures, although you can experiment with the different notes to create your own tunes if you would like.

As you can see from the image above, there is a large white circle surrounding the main character. This shows you the range of the Flute as it pulses out. Another way to tell if you’re within range is to wait for the camera to automatically lock-on to a nearby creature. This is when the taming process begins.

When you lock-on to the creature, pay close attention to it. You will see sequences of white slices that appear above the creature’s head. As you can see from the creature shown above, it requires you to use the notes E, G, A.

That’s all you need to learn to capture the creatures in Creatures of Ava. Approach, use your flute, and then wait for the creature to show you the tune it wants you to play. Then follow the notes and timing.

The poisonous fungus will often hide secrets or block paths of progress, so you will want to learn how to get past the red poisonous Withering in Creatures of Ava. In this guide, we’ll show you how to use the Hanar ability and how to unlock it.

How To Unlock The Hanar Ability

Much like the previous abilities, Krist and Dhom, unlocking the Hanar ability is locked behind story progress. You must first complete the Grasslands and Jungle regions, which will grant you access to the Swamp region.

Once you have reached the Swamp region, simply follow the main quest titled “Memories of Those Lost” and you will unlock the Hanar ability.

How To Use The Hanar Ability

The Hanar ability is unique as it’s the only ability not tied to attacking with the Nafitar. Instead, it’s a defensive ability. It is activated simply by assigned it to one of your ability buttons and then pressing the corresponding button.

It’s a shield that fills a dual purpose. It can protect against a single attack made by an aggressive creature, or more once upgraded, but its primary purpose is to shield Vic from environmental damage.

Once activated, you will see a green bubble flash around Vic momentarily. Vic will then glow green. This is to represent the active shielding effect. While this is active, you can freely explore past the red fungus poison without taking damage.

Much like removing the gold Withering infection in earlier parts of the game, you will need to unlock a special Nafitar upgrade in order to get past the vines.

How To Unlock The Dhom Nafitar Ability

The Nafitar ability upgrade you need to unlock is called Dhom. It’s not a traditional upgrade that’s available through the Skill Tree, instead it’s one of the several “Story” upgrades. These upgrades are only available once you reach a certain part of the story.

Follow the main story in Creatures of Ava until you reach the Jungle region. Once you reach this region, you will have a story quest to seek out the temple in this area. Simply follow the objective marker to reach the temple. Once you finish the temple, you will unlock the Dhom ability.

How To Use Dhom To Get Past The Vines

With the Dhom ability equipped, look at the top of the vine doorway. You will notice a large, seed-like object at the top of the vines. Aim at this point and then use your Nafitar ability to target it.

As you are hitting the object, use the Dhom ability. This will encase the object in a yellow-like glow, telling you it is active. This drastically slows the speed in which the vines can close. You can now walk through.

This guide on How To Remove Yellow Withering In Creatures Of Ava explains both how to unlock the ability to cure the gold Withering infection, and how to use the actual ability itself, as the latter can be a bit tricky.

Unlocking The Ability To Cure Yellow Infection

In order to unlock the upgraded ability that allows you to cure the gold infection, you need to follow the story until you reach The Weeping Rock. This can be found far to the South West of Arsira Village.

You will first be tasked with special branches to begin a ceremony for the native people. At the end of this quest, after finding the third branch, your Archaeologist friend will send you a message and ask you meet. After speaking with him, he will send you to The Weeping Rock.

When you first arrive at the Weeping Rock, they are creatures and plants that you cannot cure of the Withering, because they are gold or yellow. Simply run through to the end of the temple and clear the regular infection. This will raise a familiar stone pillar that, once used, unlocks your new ability.

Using The New Ability To Clear Gold Infections

The new ability you unlock is called Krist, and it acts as a modifier for your Nafitar. Using the normal taming button, which is LT on a controller, your beam will connect to the plant as normal. However, this will not be enough to cure the infection.

With the beam engaged, press the RT button, this will bring up a directional options menu. By default, Krist will be assigned to up. So hold RT and then press Up, this will activate the Krist ability, as shown in the image above.

With the Krist ability equipped, simply hold LT and then tap RT, this will activate Krist and remove the plant. This is the first of many upgrades in Creatures of Ava. If you want to prepare for the road ahead, check out how to get past poison mushrooms and how to stop moving vines.
