The upgrading in Assassin’s Creed Origins is different to past games in the franchise and is much more limited. Simply navigate to your Gear screen and check the bottom left and bottom right areas. There are 6 different items you can upgrade through crafting. If you want to know the requirements for each gears level, check out our Assassins Creed Origins Crafting Upgrade Guide.
Below is a list of all the crafting ingredients we’ve discovered so far and the best places to find or farm them. Make sure you use the tips in our best farming guide for Assassins Creed Origins.
TIP: When looking for convoys transporting goods, don’t relay totally on Senu. Although the bird is able to locate a lot of convoys, it’s misses more than it finds. Instead, as you’re riding around, looking carefully for mounted enemies. If there are at least 3 horses or a cart and horses, attack. There’s a very high chance they are in a convoy transporting materials.

Cedarwood can be found on convoys, although it becomes more rare in later areas. It’s best farmed in the earlier stages of the game. You can also Dismantle bows and other wooden items to get Cedarwood. Despite what the game says, this is not a very common ingredient.
Found an area in Kanopos Nome, around level 13-14. I found 5 transports in 5 minutes. Make sure to attack anything that is a convoy of enemies with 3+ horses or a cart.
Other good areas to find Cedarwood:
Bronze are usually found in convoys. Use the bird to scout an area, a city or town works best. And look for the Bronze sign. Take out the guards and the enemy transporting the Bronze and then loot his body for the item. You can also get Bronze from dismantling metal weapons.
Soft Leather is very common, found on most basic wildlife. There are two very good locations to farm Soft Leather easily. Marked above is an Ibex Lair and to the South, a Hyena Lair. Plenty of opportunities to farm Soft Leather here.
Other good areas to find Soft Leather:
Hard Leather can be difficult to obtain. There’s a good spot in Lake Mareotis, the small island in the middle of the lake. There are a lot of crocodiles here and they drop Hard Leather. The west side of the lake there’s a lot of boats that get attacked by hippos, marked by a ! on your mini-compass. Those are also a good way to obtain Hard Leather.
Other good areas to find Hard Leather:
Pelt is difficult to obtain in the earlier levels. It comes from high level wildlife, such as Tigers and Lions. Most of these are too high to kill at the start but there is a group aboard the South Mareotis Trireme boat that is on Lake Mareotis. They are only level 7 and drop 3+ Pelts each. A good place before you reach the areas where Lions and such are more common later.
Other good areas to find Pelt:
This area is much better. The animals are around 6-7. Drop multiple pelts each. The whole mountain area in the screenshot is a good location.
Another pelt spot, North of Memphis.
Iron is very similar to Bronze. Use the bird in a town and check around for the silver ore icon. It’s rarer than bronze but anywhere you can find bronze convoys, there’s also a small chance of getting an iron convoy. You can find a lot of iron being transported by boats in the Lake Mareotis region. You can also get Iron from dismantling metal weapons.
Carbon Crystals are among the hardest materials to obtain. They cannot be harvested from creatures. They are hidden away inside loot treasure boxes. I will provide a list of the areas that I discover Carbon Crystal in below, but look for the treasure icon while exploring
[list style='regular']
[list_item]Sunken Desmoterion Ship – Center of Lake Mareotis[/list_item]
[list_item]Taua Ruins – South East Sap-Meh Nome. In the ruins just before the bridge[/list_item]

[list_item]Akra Garrison – Alexandria[/list_item]
[list_item]Narrow Crevice – A ? South of Alexandria in the water.[/list_item]
